5th Grade Collects Toys for Tots

The fifth grade students at Golden Hill have been learning how to identify and apply themes in their daily lives. What better way to “learn the importance of giving back” than by running a toy drive for Toys for Tots. 5th grade class pose for picture with toys they collected
Hoping to be positive role models while spreading holiday cheer, the fifth grade students on the Hill successfully collected over 80 new and unwrapped toys that will be in the hands of children this holiday season. The initial idea was sparked in fifth grade5th grade class pose for picture with toys they collected when a few of the students wondered what they could do to make the world a bit kinder. From there, Toys for Tots became a reality and soon flyers, as well as decorative posters were hung throughout the school. Since the Toys for Tots train will be stopping in the Hudson Valley on Sunday, December 15th, the students set a deadline of December 12th as the last day to bring in toys. The fifth graders were heard daily on the morning announcements reminding the school community to bring in unwrapped and new toys. As expected, the toy drive ran smoothly and the students had a lot of fun, while learning the value of “giving back.”

In conclusion, the fifth graders want to thank everyone for their support and donations. They were happily surprised by the kindness and generosity of others during this wonderful experience. Finally, a special shout out to Ms. Kruger, one of Seward’s sixth grade teachers, who volunteered to take the big, wrapped boxes of toys to the Toys for Tots train. It truly takes a village… Way to go, fifth graders on the Hill!
