Spartan Players Wow Community With “Seussical!”
After four months of rehearsals, the Spartan Players had a successful run of their musical, “Seussical!” This show was made up of strong voices, dozens of props, many costumes and a group of hard-working students willing to pull it all together. The cast did just that, and then some!
“I have seen tremendous growth in the students that I’ve had for three years now, and am blown away by the talent of our new students who joined this year,” shared director Nicole Ecker. “They made new acting choices every time they went on stage and knew exactly what to do in the moment if something wasn’t going quite right. I’m really overjoyed and proud to be their director and teacher.”
The Spartan Players showed perseverance and dedication, overcoming unexpected challenges and putting on a truly spectacular show.
Superintendent Dr. Lisamarie Spindler congratulated the cast and crew on their outstanding work. “Watching our students come together on stage filled me with immense pride, but even more powerful was seeing the joy and passion they have for what they do. Their energy, creativity and commitment to one another truly brought this performance to life. This is what makes our school community so special.”
“Seussical” was the first performance to utilize S.S. Seward’s newly renovated stage and lighting system. This new system offers a nearly infinite color palette, allowing for seamless transitions and professional-grade effects that were utilized to create the world of Dr. Seuss. This upgrade serves as a vital bridge for our students. By using the same digital interfaces found in higher education and professional theaters, our students are gaining the "real-world" skills necessary to succeed in production careers.
The renovation also addressed a critical need beneath the performers' feet. The old vinyl stage flooring, which had become a noted safety hazard due to its slipperiness, has been replaced.
The new black rubberized flooring provides a high-traction surface that ensures our dancers and actors can move with confidence. This matte-black finish also helps the floor "disappear" during performances, allowing the lighting and set design to truly shine.
“It’s been the most rewarding experience for me and I hope for the kids too,” said Ecker. “They are truly the best and I will miss seeing them at rehearsals every day. Until the next show!” _1774281617.jpg)
