S.S. Seward Institute honored our local heroes this past Friday in memory of the tragic events of September 11th. Local residents and FDNY members Mr. Rudy Goop, Mr. Danny Hogan, and Mr. Eugene Stolowski spoke of their first hand experiences on the darkest day of the department’s history. Supporting the speakers with their presence were FDNY members Mr. John Waldrick and Mr. Larry Bealer.
While keeping alive the memories of so many who died that day, the heroism of those who stepped into action without hesitation was highlighted by the first responders who spoke. “Many people don’t know that over 14,000 people were rescued that day”, said Mr. Rudy Goop reflecting on the lives saved by the bravery of his comrades.
The ceremony was attended by the entire school and included a beautiful rendition of The National Anthem by Shea Fleury and Sophia LaBelle led by Mr. Visconti. Very special thanks to Kaitlin Stolowski and the members of the student council led by Mr. Pascullo, who were inspired to make the ceremony happen and organized the event. We also extend our gratitude to the Florida Volunteer Fire Department for their support of the ceremony in having Ms. Anne Ossenjuck and Ms. McKenzie Richner in attendance.
Our Spartan family is proud to honor those who have sacrificed so much on behalf of our community, region, and nation. Thank you to all of our first responders and members of the military for their service!
